'Day in the life' with our Northland Field Service Engineer William!
Q. What excites you about your role?
Good
variation in clients and equipment; there's never a dull moment and it's a fairly specialized industry to be in as well so that offers
plenty of scope for continuous learning and development. I've worked on everything from tug boats to milking rotaries since being at Ash
Air.
Q. What are the priorities in your job as a Field Service Engineer?
Providing the customer with the best service that I can and leaving them with a positive impression of myself and of our company. Ensuring
that our machines are performing and looking at their best and ensuring that repeat customers stay and new customers trust us to then
become repeat customers themselves. I want to leave a site with each customer feeling happy with what they've seen (and happy to pay their
bill!).
Q. Tell us a typical day in the life/ day on the job?
There is no typical day in Whangarei! We could be on a farm, in a quarry, at a food factory or in a manufacturing workshop. A good podcast
on the drive to the site is about the only typical thing I experience, we have a huge variation in clients up here.
Q: What is some advice for someone thinking about a career in this sort of industry?
Be prepared to learn and listen. Nobody knows everything about vacuum or compressed air so it's important to be open minded and embrace
the challenges that come along the way. Be tidy, be courteous and be punctual and don't take breakdowns personally; sometimes they will
just happen.
Q. If you could have dinner with three inspirational people, dead or alive, who would they be?
Elon Musk, Jeremy Clarkson and Sir Stirling Moss. Just imagine it!
Check out these photos that William has taken on the job, showing how much each
day at Ash Air as a Field Service Engineer can vary!
